The Children’s Museum of South Dakota made “this year’s ‘it’ list honoring the 25 best new places,” according to the January/February issue of Midwest Living Magazine, which advises travelers to “leave time in your road trip itineraries for this phenomenal attraction.”
The museum was the only South Dakota attraction included in the list that contained other points of interest in cities such as Chicago, Omaha, Kansas City, Grand Rapids, and Minneapolis.

The museum, which has entertained guests from every state in the United States, is South Dakota’s only broad-based, cross-discipline children’s museum and consistently draws new visitors to the city of Brookings and to the state.

The Children’s Museum of South Dakota, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, opened its doors and welcomed visitors September 12th, 2010. It boasts 21,000 square feet of interactive indoor exhibits and programming as well as 1.5 acre outdoors exhibit space. The museum was created on 4-acres of land in a 38,000 square foot elementary school, originally built in 1936, on the edge of downtown Brookings and in the heart of the Brookings Historic District.
