Jumping Water

Courtyard

Step outside onto the high-energy, interactive courtyard.

Draw on the sidewalk with colorful chalk. Scamper through dancing water fountains. Scurry through a gigantic portion of the Lewis & Clark pipeline.

In this area, children experiment with the sense of scale by creating sidewalk art or observing the size of the Lewis and Clark pipelines. Observe how pervious pavers and sediment tubes soak up water and allow it to return to the water table rather than becoming runoff. Through the Pervious Pavers and Sediment Tubes, children learn about the properties of water and wonder about the ways to move water and how it is absorbed.

The Water Fountain piques curiosity about where the water will spurt next. Children enjoy making predictions about the next spurt, moving in and out of the water’s path.
